Market Forecast for Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers
ElectroniCast Consultants of Upper Lake, Calif., has released a 10-year market forecast study on the global consumption of fixed, semi- and fully reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers and supporting fiber optic components. The report suggests that the worldwide consumption of the multiplexers will accelerate from $371 million in 2005 and $483 million in 2006 to $2.38 billion in 2015. It predicts that the devices will maintain the consumption value lead, with their 82% value share in 2005 evolving to a 53% share, or $1.35 billion, in 2015. These figures represent the forecasted value of assembled modules and systems, including operating software and electronics, and excluding remote control and instrumentation subsystems and related costs. The study also estimates that the worldwide consumption of multiplexer components was $69.2 million in 2005 and $102 million in 2006, and that this market will rapidly rise to $832 million in 2015.
