Companies to Develop Compact Projectors

SpatiaLight Inc. of Novato, Calif., SI InfoComm Inc. of Korea and Scram Technologies Inc. of Bowie, Md., have entered into a memorandum of understanding agreement for the development of laser-diode-based microprojectors. These next-generation compact projection displays are expected to bring bigger and higher-quality video to mobile electronics, including cellular phones and laptop computers. They will provide high-resolution images from a variety of data, image and video sources by linking to either a wireless or a wired source.

Under the agreement, SpatiaLight will provide a customized 0.3-in. diagonal SVGA-resolution single-chip liquid-crystal-on-silicon imager solution and the drive electronics reference design. Scram will produce the optical component technology, including the laser diode modules that will drive the system. SI InfoComm will be responsible for the overall design and system-level integration of the devices and will provide SpatiaLight with funding to speed its development and commercialization.
