II-VI Inc. Wins Verdict Against Consultant

II-VI Inc. of Saxonburg, Pa., a producer of materials for optical, IR and nuclear radiation detectors, has won its lawsuit against a former consultant. A jury found that Emmanuil Raiskin had misappropriated trade secrets from the company pertaining to crystal growth.
II-VI said it had disclosed to Raiskin, as its consultant, trade secrets on significant advances in both the equipment and process used to produce radiation detector material. The company alleged that in 1995 Raiskin attempted to sell equipment containing the technology to a competitor. The case, decided in federal court in San Diego, was the first lawsuit of its kind for the company.
