University Establishes Nanotech Research Center

The University of Colorado at Boulder has received a grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to establish a nanotechnology research center, which will be known as the DARPA Focus Center on Nanoscale Science and Technology for Integrated Micro/Nano-Electromechanical Transducers. Hosted by the university’s department of mechanical engineering, the center has garnered $1.53 million for its first-year expenditures through the grant, industrial sponsorships, and matching support from the university and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, based in Gaithersburg, Md.

Students, faculty and postdoctoral researchers from the university, the institute, and Columbia and Northwestern universities will be involved in investigative projects.
