Optikos to Develop System for Focus Verification

Optikos Corp. of Cambridge, Mass., received a $3.4 million contract from ITT Corp. of White Plains, N.Y., to develop an optical focus verification system for telescope-to-film and telescope-to-CCD camera image plane alignment. The contract supports the 45th US Air Force Space Wing operations at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

The system will be used on five large-aperture telescopes that track launches, including those of the space shuttle. It will provide automated verification of the correct focus of the telescopes. The work will be conducted at ITT’s System Div. in Colorado Springs, Colo.
