JDSU to Acquire Agility Communications

In California, JDSU of San Jose has agreed to purchase Agility Communications Inc., a Santa Barbara-based provider of widely tunable laser products for optical networks. The combined company expects to strengthen its position, both in the growing market for tunable lasers and transponders and as an end-to-end optical network provider. It will unite JDSU’s scalable manufacturing capability with Agility’s single-chip monolithic platform for the high-volume manufacture of tunable, pluggable products.
Subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approval, the acquisition is expected to close in the quarter ending in December. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
