Ametek Acquires Spectro Analytical

Ametek Inc. of Paoli, Pa., has acquired Spectro Beteiligungs GmbH, the holding company of Spectro Analytical Instruments GmbH & Co. KG and its affiliates. A global supplier of atomic spectroscopy analytical instrumentation, Spectro was acquired from an investor group led by German Equity Partners BV for approximately $98 million.

Using optical emission or energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence measurement techniques, Spectro’s instruments for the analysis of solids and liquids have applications in the aerospace, pharmaceutical, environmental testing, and metal production and processing markets, among others. The Kleve, Germany, company joins Ametek’s Electronic Instruments Group, which specializes in monitoring, testing, calibrating and display instruments.
