Coherent Acquires TuiLaser AG

Coherent Inc. has purchased the privately held TuiLaser AG for approximately $27.2 million, net of cash acquired. Based in Munich, Germany, TuiLaser designs and manufactures excimer and advanced solid-state lasers for scientific, OEM, medical and industrial applications. Its infrared and green solid-state lasers, which complement Coherent's solid-state devices, have applications in the growing market of identity card marking. The acquisition will strengthen the Santa Clara, Calif, company's excimer laser offerings, which range from low to high power, for a variety of markets.

Diode laser manufacturer Toptica Photonics AG of Gräfelfing, Germany, is not part of the transaction and remains an independent and privately owned company. Formerly TuiOptics GmbH, it originated as a business unit of TuiLaser AG.
