Dalsa Licenses Philips CMOS Sensor Technology
Dalsa Corp. of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, has signed an agreement to license CMOS image sensor technology from the Netherlands-based Royal Philips Electronics NV. The arrangement will enable Dalsa to use Philips' patent rights, expertise, and product and prototype device designs relating to the technology. This access to intellectual property is a step in Dalsa's strategy for growth in its digital imaging division. The company intends to apply the technology in the professional and high-volume industrial markets.
The Canadian company has hired scientists and engineers who have participated in the development of the licensed property to work at its site in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
Dalsa also has received a renewal contract to supply image sensor chips to an OEM in the medical market. The CCD sensors will enable the customer to produce x-ray systems that reduce discomfort as well as the amount of radiation levels for the patient. Sales resulting from the contract are expected total $3.8 million. Delivery of the chips is scheduled over a three-year period.
