ILX Lightwave, a Bozeman, Mont., maker of laser diode instrumentation and test systems for research, development and manufacturing, announced it will donate $100,000 in equipment to colleges and universities over the next five years. Beginning in July, it will award $10,000 in ILX Lightwave equipment biannually. Recipients will be chosen based on the quality of their respective university’s photonics educational program and the relevance of their research to the future of laser diode technology and applications. Photop Technologies Inc., a Fuzhou, China, manufacture of products including optics, fiber optics, projection and display components and lasers, and Pavilion Integration Corp. (PIC), a Fremont, Calif., maker of laser modules and optical subsystems, have announced a joint development and manufacturing agreement to make red, green and blue lasers for the biotechnology, graphics and metrology markets under the PIC brand. PIC will focus on laser designs, product development and marketing and customer support; Phoptop will manufacture the lasers.
