DynaVac, a Hingham, Mass., maker of high-vacuum process equipment for thin-film deposition, announced it has delivered an optical coating system to Hardin Optical, a Bandon, Ore., maker of custom optics and telescopes. The fully automated system is equipped with an electron beam source, ion source, crystal monitor and a DynaVac optical monitor and can produce precision optical coatings such as antireflection, mirror and beamsplitting on glass or plastic substrates.    . . .    Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe began laying the foundation for its new European headquarters in Langen, Germany, near Frankfurt, this week. It will move from its current location in Dreieich-Buchschlag on Dec. 15. The new building will house its microcontroller, ASIC and radio frequency design centers and its multimedia development center, where new products are developed. At a groundbreaking ceremony, FME electronic devices filled a time capsule placed beneath the foundation stone: a 32-bit automotive microcontroller, a Coral graphic display controller, an ASIC used in high-speed fiber optic networking and a SmartMPEG evaluation board. 180 FME employees will work at the new facility, and 40 from other Fujitsu companies -- Fujitsu Services GmbH, Fujitsu Laboratories Europe and Shinko Electronics Limited -- will relocate there. Fujitsu Microelectronics America Inc. announced that Kazuyuki Kawauchi was named president and CEO, effective April 1. He replaces Kazuo Iida, who has become an advisor to to the company. Kawauchi has held various management positions at Fujitsu Ltd. and its affiliates.    . . .    nLight, a Vancouver, Wash., manufacturer of high-power semiconductor lasers, announced it has named Laser Lines (Industrial & Medical) Ltd., as its exclusive distributor in the UK. Laser Lines will be responsible for sales and service of nLight's CW and QCW high-power visible and near-infrared diode laser product line. Laser Lines, based in Banbury, England, is an international distributor of laser, electro-optic and rapid prototyping equipment.
