Irvine Sensors Corp. will be demonstrate a prototype electronic "dog tag" at the tenth annual meeting and exposition of the
American Telemedicine Association, to be held April 17-20 at the Colorado Convention Center, in Denver. The electronic dog tag, being developed for the US military, is an electronic storage device -- with the size and appearance of a standard military dog tag -- that holds an individual's entire medical history. It uses wireless communication and secure radio frequency transmission, a USB interface, data storage capacity from 256 megabytes to 8 gigabytes and a built-in rechargeable battery, enabling health care providers to retrieve histories and record and transmit medical care activity in rugged environments such as a battlefield, using a PDA developed by the military for point-of-care use. Irvine Sensors' development activity has been funded largely through Small Business Innovation Research grants and is part of a broader procurement process intended to enhance military health care using advanced technologies.
