Scott Higgins was appointed vice president of operations at Alfalight Inc., a Madison, Wisc.-based maker of diode lasers for the industrial, defense and telecommunications markets. Higgins was formerly with Corona Optical Systems, where he led the manufacturing of high-speed parallel optical interconnects. Previously, he held senior operating positions at Westell Technologies, US Robotics and Motorola.    . . .    FiberOptic.com, an online distributor of fiber optic equipment, supplies, rentals and training, has opened its new headquarters, in Sellersville, Pa. The 3500-square-foot facility, at 510 North Main St. (phone: 877-529-9114), has expanded warehouse space and will be the site of training courses such as fiber optic certification classes for installers and individuals who maintain fiber optic networks. FiberOptic.com (www.fiberoptic.com) is an authorized distributor for manufacturers including Agilent, Exfo, Fitel, Fluke, Nettest, Sumitomo, VC-NEX, Westover and Wilcom. The company will soon launch a line of test equipment including a mini-OTDR, power meter and light source.    . . .    Motorola Inc. announced it has licensed its electronic sensor calibration technology to BEI Technologies Inc. for inertial sensor products used in vehicle stability control systems. BEI has agreed to pay to Motorola an undisclosed sum and royalties on the sale of BEI inertial sensor products using Motorola’s electronic calibration technology.
