Varian Buys Products for Spectroscopy

Varian Inc. of Palo Alto, Calif., has purchased molecular spectroscopy assets from Digilab LLC of Randolph, Mass., to expand its offerings of detectors and spectrometers for life sciences and materials research. The products include Fourier transform infrared imaging (FTIR) microscopes and near-infrared, Raman and FTIR spectroscopy instruments. With the expectation that the acquisition will produce $15 million or more in revenue in the first year, Varian will make payments beyond the $14 million cash purchase price.
