Newport Funds Student Travel Grants to SPIE Meetings

Newport Corp. of Irvine, Calif., is financing new travel awards totaling $10,000 for students who present papers at SPIE's annual meeting or at Photonics West. Given annually by SPIE, the Newport Research Excellence awards are open to students from US universities whose papers have been accepted for presentation. Recipients will be chosen based on the quality of the original research described in the submission(s) and on financial need. The students are invited to a recognition dinner during the meeting, where they can discuss their research with industry leaders. Further information may be found on the SPIE and Newport Web sites.
