Partnership to Develop CMOS Sensors for Digital Imaging

The Institute for Microelectronics in Stuttgart, Germany, and G-Link Technology, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based chip manufacturer, plan to work together on commercializing high-dynamic-range CMOS image sensor technology.
The partnership leverages G-Link's experience in consumer chip technology with the institute's electronic vision technology to provide high-resolution image sensors for digital imaging. The technology could find a home in digital cameras, videophones and cameras used in machine vision. The partners say that the wide dynamic range of the new technology will eliminate costly electronics for aperture control, shutter control and color corrections.
