Thorlabs Purchases UK Manufacturing Facility

Optical technologies company Thorlabs Inc. of Newton, N.J., has bought Melles Griot Ltd., a facility in Ely, UK, that specializes in systems for nanopositioning and vibration isolation, and in optical tables. The acquired company's parent, Melles Griot Corp. of Carlsbad, Calif., divested itself of this division to focus on its OEM lasers and optics business. Thorlabs plans to continue operations at the UK plant and to use the site as a base for increased service to UK customers.
