NuSil Technology Acquires Lightspan
CARPINTERIA, Calif., Feb. 13 -- NuSil Technology, a maker of silicone compounds for healthcare, aerospace, electronics and photonics, announced this week a definitive agreement to acquire Lightspan LLC, a Wareham, Mass. maker of fluids, gels, coatings, thermosets and encapsulation materials for the fiber optics and photonics industries.
Financial terms were not disclosed. NuSil said it will maintain Lightspan's facility and employee base as a technical services and development center for the photonics industry, and that the Lightspan brand will serve as the foundation for its products and services in this market.
Lightspan makes engineered materials based on advanced polymers for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). It also offers testing services for optical materials characterization, including UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometric transmission and refractive index vs. wavelength and temperature. NuSil said it will maintain a relationship with Fiber Optic Center, Lightspan's US distributor.
NuSil makes silicone compounds for aerospace, healthcare, electronics and other applications. It has nearly 300 employees in Carpinteria, and 50 elsewhere.
