Eastman Kodak Co., Image Sensor Solutions Wins Circle of Excellence Award

The KAF-22000CE CCD large-format color image sensor from Eastman Kodak Co.'s Image Sensor Solutions of Rochester, N.Y., has 22 million pixels that produce high-resolution, high-quality images in digital still camera systems used by commercial studio photographers, aerial photographers, scientists and astronomers. The 36 X 48-mm optical format is designed to cover nearly a full field of view in medium-format cameras, and it provides twice the photographic active area of 35-mm film.

The imager is based on an advanced lateral overflow drain pixel architecture with dual contacts at the top and bottom to provide more than 250X antiblooming protection over the illumination required for saturation. It uses the company's indium-tin-oxide and true two-phase technology. A metal light shield at the pixel level minimizes crosstalk and reproduces stable color at incident angles of up to 50°. A dispersed-pigment RGB color filter array enables single- and multishot photography with three colors per image, generating a 66-MB inter-polated color image file.

Low-voltage CCD clocks, an independent high-performance CCD gate and a refined three-stage output amplifier enable 20-MHz operation. Other features include a wide dynamic range, high data rates and precise sampling of output signals.
