A4Vision Receives Government Contract for 3-D Identification Technology
A4Vision Inc. of Cupertino, Calif., will develop a mobile three-dimensional imaging identification system for the US government under a $190,000 contract for the initial two phases of the program. The total award is estimated at $420,000. To meet heightened demands for security, the optical biometric device for personal identification will have the ability to recognize individuals in full motion and under various light conditions, and to function with multiple identification and access methods, including smart cards. It will be based on passive, noninvasive technology that can take up to 10 identifications per second. The tool will be developed with the company's prime contractor partner, Unisys of Blue Bell, Pa., which was recently awarded a federal R&D support contract to enhance face-recognition technologies.
