Spectra-Physics Expands in China

With the opening of a subsidiary in Beijing, Spectra-Physics of Mountain View, Calif., has expanded its operations in China. Spectra-Physics China will provide sales, service and support to the country's market for laser systems, photonic components and OEM subsystems. It will offer optical filters, research and OEM lasers, application-specific charge-injection device imaging arrays and camera systems, ruled and holographic gratings covering the spectrum from the UV through the IR, and synthetic, scintillation and electro-optic crystals for IR optics. A satellite office in Shanghai, China, will focus on support to the industrial market.

Heading the unit is Baining Liu, who serves as the company's China operations director. The management team includes those who started the Spectra-Physics service center in China 19 years ago.
