Cornell University program that integrates life sciences into engineering education has been awarded $999,000 by the
New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research. The program in biomedical engineering, headed by
Michael Shuler, professor of chemical engineering at Cornell, provides classroom and laboratory experience in drug delivery, nanobiotechnology and biomicroelectromechanical systems.

Candela Corp.'s board of directors. Hsia was most recently president and co-founder of Lasersharp Corp., and was previously Candela's senior vice president of research and development. Candela makes laser systems for cosmetic and medical applications.
