Universal Display Wins Army Contract
EWING, N.J., Feb. 10 -- Universal Display Corp., a developer of flat-panel display technology, has been awarded a two-year, phase 2 Small Business Innovation Research contract for $729,996 by the US Army to further its development of conformable and transparent display technologies.
In the first phase of the program, Universal Display used its transparent OLED and flexible OLED technologies to demonstrate a high-efficiency, transparent and conformable backlight. In the second phase, the company will focus on developing transparent and conformable active matrix OLED displays using its phosphorescent OLED technology. The new contract for the first year is $444,017, and the remainder is expected to be funded in the second year.
This work will support the Army's goal to develop high-resolution, miniature, full-color OLED displays for helmet-mounted display systems. It will also advance new applications, including heads-up displays for automotive windshields and architectural "smart" glass, as well as conformable displays for novel consumer electronics, automotive interiors and wearable electronics, Universal Display said.
