Lucent to Build China Networks

BEIJING, Jan. 15 -- Lucent Technologies announced that it has signed contracts with Jiangsu Unicom and the Jiangsu subsidiary of Unicom Horizon Mobile Telecommunications company to build advanced optical transmission networks.

Under the agreements, Lucent will provide Jiangsu Unicom with the tools to create and maintain its own high-capacity, fiber-optic networks to connect base stations and mobile switching centers to long-distance networks.

Jiangsu Unicom will deploy the Metropolis AM Ethernet/SDH metro access multiplexer and the Metropolis ADM MultiService Mux metro access multiplexer in five cities across Jiangsu Province. The projects are expected to be completed by the end of this month.
