Coherent Acquires Molectron Detector Inc.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 9 -- Coherent Inc. announced today it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Molectron Detector Inc. (MDI) for $11.5 million in cash. The close of the transaction was effective Nov. 30. MDI, located in Portland, Ore., designs and manufactures laser test and measurement equipment for photonics-based applications and markets.

"The acquisition of MDI provides our customers with the broadest selection of laser test and measurement equipment available," said John Ambroseo, president and CEO of Coherent Inc. "The acquisition of MDI's power and energy measurement products and core technology can be leveraged into our products in both the scientific and commercial markets."

MDI and its senior management team will continue to operate from Portland.
