StockerYale to Provide LED Illuminators

SALEM, N.H., Nov. 7 -- StockerYale Inc., a supplier of photonics-based products, announced it has been awarded an initial contract from Elsag spa, a Genova, Italy-based company, for custom designed, infrared light-emitting diode (LED) illuminators.

StockerYale said its LED illuminator is integral to the O2CR Elsag system, which has been developed as a mobile, law enforcement security system.

The O2CR Elsag system is mounted on a mobile police or security vehicle to illuminate and scan license plates on stationary or moving vehicles. Using optical character recognition (OCR) technology, the system transmits license plate information to an on-board computer.

Shipments of the LED illuminators have already begun. Stocker Yale said it anticipates subsequent orders from Elsag spa in 2003.
