Kaman Aerospace to Develop Sensor Subsystem for the US Navy

The US Navy has selected Kaman Aerospace Corp.'s Electro-Optics Development Center to participate in the design and development of the rapid airborne mine clearance system for its MH-60S helicopters, as part of a team led by Northrop Grumman, headquartered in Los Angeles.

The Tucson, Ariz.-based Kaman unit will develop the laser-based target sensor subsystem for the main system, which also will consist of gun, munitions, and fire control subsystems and software, to be integrated by Northrop Grumman. Kaman's three-year subcontract is estimated at $7.6 million.

The airborne system will be used to clear near-surface and surface-moored sea mines.
