TRUMPF and EOS Sign Laser Patent Agreement
DITZINGEN and MUNICH, Germany, Sept. 13 -- Laser system manufacturer TRUMPF and EOS, a laser-sintering company that makes rapid prototyping and manufacturing systems, have signed a cross-licence agreement for their patent portfolios in direct metal laser melting, a variation of EOS's technology.
In direct metal laser melting, metal powder free of binder or fluxing agent is melted by a scanning laser beam to build up 3-D objects with properties of the original material. The new technology will broaden the application field of rapid manufacturing, the companies said.
