Transparent Networks, Silicon Microstructures Sign MEMS Foundry Agreement
MILPITAS, Calif., Sept. 6 -- Transparent Networks Inc., a developer of photonic telecommunications systems, has signed a MEMS foundry services agreement with Silicon Microstructures Inc. (SMI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elmos Semiconductor AG. Transparent Networks will fabricate at SMI its MOEMS and MEMS components for integrated photonic switches, including 3-D mirror arrays, 3-D fiber aligners and components for photonic integrated circuits.
SMI recently acquired MEMS wafer fab operations in Milpitas, Calif., from IC Sensors to consolidate its wafer fab facilities in southern and northern California and to increase its volume production capabilities. The company plans to upgrade and expand the former IC Sensors facilities.
