IPG Photonics of Burbach, Germany, announced it shipped its first commercial 350-watt diode-pumped fiber laser in March to an undisclosed European manufacturer for a materials processing application. Fiber lasers can be used for cutting, welding, drilling, engraving and marking. . . . Taiwanese fiber optic component maker Arima Photonics, a subsidiary of Arima Corp., will be a representative for Advanced Technology Coatings' (ATC) optical telecommunication thin-film filters and coatings in the Asia-Pacific rim area. ATC is based in Plymouth, England.
