The successful test cleared the way for Cox to deploy TeraBurst's optical switches by the California Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Center for Immersive Telecommunications for Global Exchange in San Diego -- the first commercial use of TeraBurst's OMS 2200 system. TeraBurst's products are designed to meet the needs of customers requiring management of optical wavelengths within their network infrastructures.
Testing in conjunction with the deployment of the optical-core switch has also been conducted using Cox Communications' links between the San Diego Supercomputer Center at the University of California, San Diego, and the TeraBurst Optical Networking Center at San Diego State University. This end-to-end testing demonstrated both the switching and long-range transport capabilities of the switch managing live traffic between the university sites.
