Idaho Earmarks Funds for Laser Isotope Project

Idaho State University will receive $125,000 for a laser isotope separation project planned for either Idaho Falls or the university's campus in Pocatello. Project director Jay Kunze said he wanted the project in Idaho Falls because of its proximity to the National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory and Mac Isotopes, a manufacturer of radioactive isotopes for industry, medicine and research.
The funds are part of a $6 million settlement that Idaho Gov. Phil Batt reached with the US Navy and the US Department of Energy in exchange for accepting spent nuclear fuel.
