Optical scientists Joseph Shmulovich and Allan Bruce have established Inplane Photonics, a developer and manufacturer of integrated optical components and platforms, in South Plainfield, N.J. The company also announced its Series A round of more than $20 million in funding led by Jerusalem Venture Partners and Morgenthaler. . . . The Palomar SLP1000 diode laser system was cleared by the FDA for treatment of ingrown hairs on the face or neck (pseudofolliculitis barbae). The system has already been cleared for permanent hair reduction and treatment of vascular lesions.
