Sprint, Metromedia Fiber Sign Deal
NEW YORK, Dec. 6 -- Sprint Corp. has signed a deal with Metromedia Fiber Network Inc. (MFN) that will give the Kansas City-based telecom access to more fiber optic cable in several cities. The leasing arrangement will help Sprint connect its long-distance, voice, data and PCS networks with broadband access across the US. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
The network infrastructure leased by Sprint will be located in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, N.J, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, D.C. While Sprint will initially use MFN's metropolitan fiber optic infrastructure in the 10 cities, it will have the chance to expand into more markets inside and outside the USs by leasing dark fiber from MFN.
