Michigan Focuses on Physics

The National Science Foundation has established a physics frontier center at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, funding the program with $15 million over a five-year period.

In the Frontiers in Optical Coherent and Ultrafast Science Center, 19 faculty members and scientists from the university and from the University of Texas will provide leadership in studies of intense lasers, relativistic nonlinear optics, laser-driven plasma physics, ultrafast optical pulse sculpting and quantum coherence.

The center will also provide researchers from other institutions access to state-of-the-art laser systems.
