Physicist Named Air Force Fellow

Gordon D. Hager, a technical adviser with the Chemical Laser Branch, Laser Div., of the Kirtland Air Force Base Directed Energy Directorate, has won recognition as an Air Force Research Laboratory fellow for his scientific advances in chemical and gas lasers.

Hager's accomplishments over his 19-year career at the directorate include demonstrating a supersonic chemical oxygen-iodine laser (Coil), scaling demonstrations of high-power Coil devices and research on an all-gas-phase iodine laser.

In February 2000, Hager's team demonstrated the 0.2-mW all-gas, continuous-wave iodine laser, and the team's goal is to increase the device's power to 1 kW within two years.
