Optics for energy, nanophotonics, LEDs, polarization, far-field fluorescence nanoscopy and quantum optics will be just some of the topics at the Frontiers in Optics 2008 and Laser Science (FiO/LS) XXIV conference Oct. 19-23 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, the premiere platform for the latest optics trends. More than 1300 optics and photonics enthusiasts will gather at the 92nd annual meeting of the Optical Society of America (OSA) for five days of presentations, technical talks and plenary sessions. FiO 2008/LS XXIV is collocated with the Fall Optics and Photonics Congress at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and the OSA Fall Vision Meeting at the University of Rochester. MORE INFO

The 27th International Congress on Applications of Lasers & Electro-optics (ICALEO), hosted by the Laser Institute of America (LIA), will focus on the latest technologies through its three major conferences: Laser Materials Processing, Laser Microprocessing, and Nanomanufacturing. New frontiers of lasers for a sustainable energy future, including discussions of laser-based inertial-confinement fusion, pumping lasers using sunlight, laser applications in solar cells, and turning a promising technology into a viable business, are the focus of the plenary session.
