POF to Be NE Fiberoptic Council Topic

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass., June 10, 2008 -- New markets and developments in plastic optical fibers (POF) will be the subject of two presentations at the New England Fiberoptic Council's (NEFC) monthly meeting, June 24 at the Sheraton Tara, in Framingham, Mass.

"A New Light On Plastic Optical Fibers: GigaPOF" will be the topic of Dana DuToit, vice president of sales and marketing, of Chromis Fiberoptics, a Warren, N.J.-based manufacturer of high-performance graded-index polymer fibers for in-home networking, medical, mobile, consumer electronics and data-center applications. He will discuss what makes this fiber important to mobile, consumer, data-center operations and enterprise infrastructures and challenges involved in replacing all-copper facilities.

"Opportunities for Fiber Optics: Overcoming the Copper Syndrome" will be presented by Paul Polishuk, president and CEO of IGI Group, who will discuss optical versus copper-based systems.

The council will also award five scholarships to New England photonics students.

A reception will be held at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 and presentations at 8. The cost including dinner is $40 for NEFC members, $45 for non-members. For more information and to register, call (617) 548-6332; e-mail: infor@nefc.com
