National Semiconductor Corp. has released the LM3553 dual flash LED driver system with an I2C interface for configuring 128 brightness levels and 16 flash safety timer durations. Featuring adjustable overvoltage protection, the device can drive one or more high-current flash LEDs in series in high or lower power modes controlled by an internal register or the F
EN pin. It is a fixed-frequency, step-up DC-DC converter with two regulated current sinks, driving loads of up to 1.2 A from a single-cell lithium-ion battery. The driver has applications in mobile phones, personal digital assistants, portable scanners and medical strobe lights.
