FUSED SILICA FIBERS

Multimode-Fiber-Optics.jpgMultimode Fiber Optics Inc. has released low- and high-OH (hydroxyl ion) step index fused-silica fibers with a 0.22 NA. Low-OH fibers can transmit from visible to near-IR light, and high-OH fibers are used for UV-VIS. The fibers have a fused-silica core and cladding, as well as a polymer buffer for added protection. The 1-mm-diameter fibers are buffered with nylon, and those with diameters from 100 to 600 μm have a high-strength polyimide buffer that can withstand temperatures ranging from –190 to 385 °C.
