An industrial scanning system for high-speed spot welding and drilling has been jointly developed by IPG Photonics Corp. and Reliant Technologies Inc. The device can dwell at a particular location for a programmed period of time with frequencies up to 5000 times per second. The locations can be nonsequential to ensure thermal management on the material to be processed. The system has only one moving part, which makes it adaptable to many manufacturing environments.
