Sifam Fibre Optics Ltd. has developed a range of polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber splitters, taps and couplers. According to the company, the taps and splitters operate at bandwidths 50% wider than those of previous devices with, typically, 80-nm windows at 1550 nm. With increased polarization stability, the taps may be used to monitor signal or power within a fiber system in the same way that monitoring taps are used in nonpolarized systems. Components are available in volume optimized to any wavelength between 900 and 1600 nm.
