Schott North America Inc. has introduced a floating display technology that uses glass fibers to make the images on LCD and organic LED displays appear as if they are “floating” on top of the faceplate that covers them. Although Schott’s floating display faceplates are similar in appearance to conventional glass and plastic ones, they actually consist of millions of 0.025-mm glass fibers that guide the light from the display to the viewer. The technology also improves the visibility of the display in strong daylight.
