RSoft Design Group Inc. has announced version 4.6 of its Optical Communication Design Suite software, which includes OptSim and its multimode add-on ModeSys. Among new features are a bit-error-rate estimation technique for more accurate treatment of noise statistics based on Karhunen-Loève series expansion for optical signal and noise, and electronic dispersion compensation modeling via a feed-forward equalization. The program supports radio-over-fiber link, 40-Gb/s systems with different modulation techniques, cladding-pumped erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, passive optical networks and high-power optical amplifiers.
