Toshiba Teli America Inc. has released a monochrome video camera suitable for high-speed industrial vision applications. The CS8550DiF operates at 60 fps and delivers double-speed noncompressed 640 × 480-pixel output. Based on a 1/3-in. progressive-scan CCD with a square grid array, the plug-and-play camera has a 400-Mb/s FireWire interface that enables full PC control without a frame grabber. It can operate in a variety of lighting conditions down to 4.0 lx, and its backlight compensation and electronic shutter functions compensate for bright lighting sources. Measuring 49 × 35 × 98 mm, it can be used in space-restricted applications and is compatible with standard C-mount lenses.
