A 4-W short-pulse ytterbium laser has been added to the family of fiber-coupled modules produced by Lumics GmbH. The LU1060F400 emits at 1060 to 1080 nm via a 1.5-m fiber with a 25-μm core that is terminated with an FC/APC connector. The 284 × 180 × 50-mm device provides 0.8 mJ of pulse energy at a 5-kHz repetition rate and with a 100-ns pulse width. The repetition rate is adjustable from 5 to 100 kHz; the pulse width, from 30 to 400 ns. Output power, pulse specifications and repetition rate can be set via a USB interface connected to a Windows-based PC.
