A plastic automated power control (APC) laser module from Arima Optoelectronics Corp. can be directly inserted into a socket for customer applications because it has no printed circuit board and weighs less than 5 g. With its specially designed integrated plastic lens, the APCD-650-06 series device offers output light with a better beam shape than that produced by conventional lasers, according to the company. The module meets the IEC-60825-1 standard as a Class 2 laser and operates from a 3-VDC supply.
