Channel electron multipliers that operate at up to 20-mt pressure ranges with gain of 1 million and low noise have been announced by Burle Electro-Optics Inc. The Magnum and Spiraltron multipliers are based on proprietary Spiraltron technology that provides a high dynamic range and increased gain stability and that nearly eliminates ion feedback noise. The Magnum cartridge is a plug-in replacement that fits directly into the mounting assembly of most mass spectrometers. Applications include field-portable instruments and security.
