The new ProEM-HS line of high-speed electron-multiplying CCD cameras from Princeton Instruments are suited for low-light imaging and spectroscopy applications.

With 20-MHz readout capability and 300 ns-per-row vertical shift speed, the device functions at >60 full frames per second. It provides >1000 fps in imaging mode and >10,000 fps in its high-speed, custom readout modes.

The cameras are thermoelectrically cooled to below -90 °C using air and liquid. The back-illuminated EMCCD offers 95 percent quantum efficiency, fringe suppression in the near-infrared and single-photon sensitivity.

Applications include single-molecule fluorescence, astronomy, Bose-Einstein condensates and plasma studies.
