Precision Photonics Corp.
BOULDER, Colo., Jan. 9, 2011 — Precision Photonics Corp. has announced the availability of its ultralow-absorption line of thin-film coatings. Enabled by advanced in-house metrology and expertise in ion-beam-sputtered (IBS) deposition, the company delivers antireflection coatings with losses of <0.5 parts per million (ppm), and high-reflection coatings with losses of <2 ppm.
This capability is based on photothermal common path interferometry and, when combined with proprietary calibration methods, results in measurement sensitivity of <0.1 ppm for optical materials such as fused silica. In addition to verification of in-house IBS coatings, the company also provides measurement services to customers wishing to measure absorption in their own coatings or substrates. Two-dimensional mapping of surfaces is also available.
The company uses this measurement tool primarily to advance continual process improvement of its own IBS thin-film optical coatings. The combination of good durability, high reliability, precision spectral control and a high laser damage threshold makes ion beam sputtering the coating method of choice for high-power laser applications and low-loss optics.
